Our Whole Lives
Accurate, Honest, Age-Appropriate, Values-Based Sexuality Education
Our Whole Lives equips participants with accurate, age-appropriate information in six subject areas: human development, relationships, personal skills, sexual behavior, sexual health, and society and culture. It helps participants make informed and responsible decisions about their sexual health and behavior (for instance, preventing AIDS and other STDs, and abusive relationships). Teachers are trained in facilitating these classes for the age group with which they work.
The Our Whole Lives values are:
- Self Worth
- Sexual Health
- Justice and Inclusivity
We especially try to hold sessions during the teen years, covering topics and skills that both parents and students want to have available but schools are less likely to cover. Learn how it's a justice issue.
We help participants clarify their values, build interpersonal skills, and understand the spiritual, emotional, and social aspects of sexuality. Grounded in a holistic view of sexuality, Our Whole Lives provides facts about anatomy and human development, using approaches that work. The curricula are based on the Guidelines for Comprehensive Sexuality Education produced by the National Guidelines Task Force, a group of leading health, education, and sexuality professionals.
Our Whole Lives serves six separate age groups with age-appropriate content: grades K-1 (children), grades 4-6 (children), grades 7-9 (youth), grades 10-12 (youth), young adults (ages 18-35), and adults.
Permission from parents for those under 18 yrs. old is required for this class, and parents or guardians must attend an orientation or meet with the instructors. See video from youth to parents about OWL.
